The Phonetics Laboratory of the University of Zurich (UZH) conducts foundational and applied research in phonetics. The Phonetics laboratory maintains a comprehensive teaching program in Phonetics for students of linguistic disciplines at UZH. The Phonetics laboratory hosts the only specialized library for Phonetics and neighboring sciences in Switzerland. At UZH, the Phonetics Laboratory maintains a close working relationship with the Phonogram Archives, with the position in Psycholinguistics Research Unit as well as with the Department of General Linguistics.

  • Speech perception (e.g. Cocktail-Party-Effect)
  • Speech rhythm (particularly in the context of second language learners and bilinguals)
  • Segmental and suprasegmental Phonetics of Swiss German, Romansh as well as Italian dialects
